John Player erected the Playter Homestead at 28 Playter Crescent in the mid 1870’s. The property around the homestead was used for farmland up until 1912 when the neighborhood began to develop.
Playter Estates is an exclusive enclave of large predominately Edwardian homes with a mix of some Victorian and Tutor Style homes. Most of the homes on the prime streets of Playter Estates are detached homes with some family sized semi-detached homes on the neighbouring streets.
For many years Playter Estates was often referred to as the Rosedale of the east. Today these homes have been extensively renovated and increased in value and are inline price wise with many streets in and around Rosedale. Living in Playter Estate affords you the luxury of a Rosedale setting with all the conveniences of the Danforth. These luxury homes are a welcomed addition to the Christie’s International Real Estate caliber of homes.
Danforth Avenue divides Player Estates and Riverdale but often incorporated, as one area knows as Riverdale. The Danforth is the heart of the City’s Greek Community and is the primary shopping district. In the last decade the Danforth has developed to meet the needs of the changing residence bringing in new restaurants and shopping.
Playter Estates falls within the Jackman School district, which also adds to the demand for families to live here, and is a large part of the increase in Real Estate Values.
With both the Broadview and Chester subway stations and the Don Valley easily accessible, getting around the city is easy and convenient.
Playter Estates offers all the conveniences at your doorsteps. The shops of the Danforth make it easy to do your shopping and dining out. The famous Carrot Common is your #1 stop for all your organic and health oriented shopping. One stop shopping here also offers message therapists, yoga, Pilates studios and yoga.
Summer time festivities are also a part of living in this neighbourhood. The Taste of the Danforth is a weekend long celebration of Greek Cuisine and culture.
My interest in Playter Estates and Riverdale began back in 1985. At the time I was working for Darrell Kent Real Estate LTD., at their Bathurst Street location. Darrell Kent Real Estate had a number of offices throughout the city. Riverdale being one of them. Each office had a weekly meeting where we would tour the new office listings. So one week I decided to go to the Riverdale meeting. The homes that I saw there spoke to me and excited me. I loved the neighborhood and so I then asked to transfer to the Riverdale office. There my career began to flourish.
